Academic progress from one grade to the next compared to students at other schools in the state. Tony Facenda began his coaching career long before he took the job at Bluffton Middle School. Coach Facenda has been coaching soccer the past 25 years and is as good as they come. He coached the girls soccer team during the 2018 and 2019 seasons before taking the boys job in 2020. Tony, his assistant coaches, and his teams have brought multiple county championships to Bluffton Middle School, and we are looking to add to that total in the years to come.
A strong sports program is a vital part of student life and provides a balance with academics, which the students need for a well-rounded school experience. Young bodies need physical exercise, and students also learn to work together as a team in many of the sports programs offered. Joe Evenden is entering his 3rd season as one of our assistant track coaches. Mr. Evenden also teaches in our academic arts program and specializes in Project Lead the Way, Gateway to Technology, and Career and Technical Education.

Furthermore, her enthusiasm, positivity, and organization allowed our cheerleaders to have an outstanding season. The BHMSD Support Portal is the central place for reporting and receiving help with any and all technology problems. Coach Weingart’s experience and knowledge about track and field is something most schools would dream of having. During the 2021 season, Coach Weingart led the boys team to a 2nd place county finish and a county championship for the girls team. Outside of Bluffton Middle School’s 8-lane track, you can find Coach Weingart jogging the streets of Bluffton or teaching Physical Education at Red Cedar Elementary School.

Dwon Fields Sr. is entering his 7th season as our boys head baseball coach and 22nd year coaching. Carolyn Westphal is entering her 2nd consecutive season as our head girls soccer coach. Like Coach Fields and Coach Thompson, Coach Westphal started our girls soccer program in 2016. Coach Westphal is passionate about the game of soccer and wants her players to leave her program with a true love for the game. Last year, Coach Westphal’s team finished 2nd in the county; one of the best finishes in our soccer’s program.
Rachael Threadgill is entering her 8th season coaching softball and 2nd season with the Mustangs. Ms. Threadgill lets her coaching do the talking as she has won 3 previous county championships before taking the reins at Bluffton Middle School. Coach Threadgill also plays a vital role on our 8th grade math team where she teaches Algebra 1, Advanced Math, and General Math. We are looking forward to another great year with Ms. Threadgill coaching our girls.
